Merchandising: Berri — The Dog Who Wants to Be Your Friend

There’s a black Labrador named Berri. He gets along with everyone. That’s not a marketing line — it’s just who he is.

At Nijūsan Studio, we don’t manufacture characters. We work with what’s already there. And what’s there, in Berri’s case, is a dog with an almost suspicious ability to make friends. The kind of creature that walks into a room and somehow leaves everyone feeling like they were the ones who got lucky.
That’s the design brief. That’s the whole brief.

A seal. A mark. A very good boy.

Berri’s visual identity draws from two very specific Japanese traditions.
The first is the hanko — the personal seal used in Japan instead of a signature. A small, circular stamp that says: I was here. This is mine. This is me. Compact, considered, unmistakable.
The second is the manhole cover — one of Japan’s most quietly extraordinary design traditions. Japanese municipalities have been turning functional infrastructure into civic art since the 1980s. Each city, its own cast-iron illustration. Each cover, a small piece of local identity pressed into the street.
Both traditions share something: they leave a mark. Not aggressively — just definitely. Berri works the same way. You meet him once and somehow he’s already part of your story.
The result is a graphic that feels like a stamp, reads like a seal, and is unmistakably a Labrador with his tongue out and absolutely zero bad intentions.

The merch

All Berri merchandise is designed and produced at Nijūsan Studio. That means every piece goes through the same process: concept, illustration, production, quality check. No shortcuts, no dropshipping, no mystery suppliers.
Berri T-Shirt — Black, 100% cotton. The front carries Berri’s minimal face mark — just the nose, the smile, the tongue, and his name in katakana: ベリィ. The back features the full circular seal design, also in Japanese, reading Berri, the black Labrador — let’s be friends. Printed using DTF (Direct to Film), which means sharp edges, solid whites, and a finish that holds wash after wash. [→ Shop the T-Shirt]
Berri Tote Bag — The circular seal, large format, on a natural canvas tote. The kind of bag you use every day and that quietly starts conversations. [→ Shop the Tote Bag]

Every order ships with the Berri Pack

Because Berri makes friends everywhere, every Nijūsan Studio order includes a small collection of Berri objects:
• Acrylic Pins — the face mark, small and precise, for lapels, bags, or wherever you put things that matter.
• Vinyl sticker — cut on our own plotter. Weatherproof, clean edges, ready for wherever you decide Berri belongs.
• Fridge magnet — because the fridge is the most visited place in any home, and Berri knows this.
The pack isn’t an upsell. It’s just how Berri operates. He shows up, he makes himself at home, and before long you’re wondering how you got along without him.
